Thoughts on interactions

A note to all players, DMs, broadcasters and business people, to anyone actually!

I have been told by two players that they have left the Quantos D&D RPG campaign because they didn’t like our game. One said he didn’t like my DMing style, it was nothing personal.

I invite all players and viewers who join to be as honest. If there are any issues with any aspect of our campaign, please let me know so we can try to resolve them so they are no longer issues. I do not take people’s playing preferences personally. Everyone has life and gaming styles they prefer and our campaign style will not suit or fit everyone. I acknowledge that and do not take it personally.

The player was gracious and acknowledged this was not his preference without making it into a personal attack, I bow to him and wish him the best and hope he finds a game to fit into, he does have a fair game and technical knowledge.

This leaves us once again with Dul, Ghost and an as-yet-unnamed third player. A fourth and fifth players have expressed interest but have not signed up as yet.

As I have explained in the broadcasts and during streaming, this is our first run-through with 5e D&D and the different streaming platforms setup.

I come to this from 2nd Ed D&D, background, where we were playing as tabletop pen & paper realms.

This is not to make excuses. This is to explain why I set the official launch date for the campaign for August 1st, 2022. This is to give us time to learn the systems and platforms, time to iron out the streaming platforms and build a stable player team.

I have learnt that building and learning a system and processes takes time. Usually twice as long as people tell you and other broadcasters say it typically takes two to three months to create a stable working setup. So I set August 1st, 2022 starting the project in January 2022.

From my days as a successful DM running weekend games for twenty years, I learned that there are players who will one-session any campaign no matter how the campaign runs. A campaign will always start up the first year, losing 85% of its initial starting players before finding a stable team, no matter what size you build four, six, eight, even a sixteen-player team, it always happens. Almost always until you’re into the campaign a year you will have players dropping out.

Some who drop out will remain good friends and join you later. Never burn bridges or take participation, or lack of, personally. Life shit happens, personal preferences change, campaign styles change, different campaigns will startup. Life happens. You need to remember this in gaming, life, and business.

I’m a perpetual student in life, I majored in macro sociology in college and learned a lot. But it doesn’t prepare you for business or life and running a campaign. To run a successful project you have to consider both aspects. For a DM to be good or successful you should know something about the systems of both, life and systems of business. And damnit, be a storyteller knowing the hero’s journey! The DM doesn’t even need to be sociable if he has all these, but it does help.

So, best regards, KenShuMC, signing off on another ranting blog.
